Silver Thiosulfate Mix 20mM
Product Description
Silver Thiosulfate, sometimes known as STS, is used to block ethylene production in plant tissue culture. This allows for the production of male flowers with feminized pollen from female seeds. STS is a popular choice over Silver Nitrate alone for its ability to improve shoot and flower formation.
Silver Thiosulfate is provided as two separate packets to create stock solutions that will later be combined. Dissolve the Silver Nitrate and Sodium Thiosulfate packets in separate beakers of 100 mL of distilled water. Maintain the stock solutions separate until ready for use in plant tissue culture. Mix 20 mL of Silver Nitrate with 80 mL of Sodium Thiosulfate to achieve a 20mM solution of Silver Thiosulfate.
