Carbenicillin Disodium Salt is a beta-lactam antibiotic that is often preferred over Ampicillin in selection protocols. It is believed that outer envelope structures are crucial in developing bacterial resistance to Carbenicillin.
This sterile solution is prepared with Carbenicillin that has a potency of >770 µg/mg. Carbenicillin Disodium Salt is generally added at 50 or 100 µg/mL to cell culture media. For 100 µg/mL of antibiotic, add 1 mL of Carbenicillin Disodium Salt Solution to 1 L of culture medium. If adding to a medium containing agar, add Carbenicillin after autoclaving, but before the solution cools and solidifies.
