Chloramphenicol
Bacteriostatic against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Inhibits protein synthesis by preventing peptide bond formation by peptidyl transferase. Used in large scale plasmid preparation of low to moderate copy number plasmids as well as in CAT assays.
