Product Description
Ampicillin Sodium Salt is a beta-lactam antibiotic with an amino side chain attached to 6-amino-penicillanic acid. This Penicillin derivative inhibits bacterial cell-wall synthesis by inactivating transpeptidases on the inner surface of the cell membrane. It is often used as a selective agent for plasmid transformation.
Ampicillin Sodium Salt is bactericidal to E.coli, and is more active against Gram-negative bacteria. Resistance to Ampicillin Sodium Salt is mediated by cleavage of the beta-lactam ring of Ampicillin by beta-lactamase. Research is being done into the use of Ampicillin-functionalized gold nanoparticles to combat Ampicillin-resistant bacteria.
Ampicillin Sodium Salt is provided at >97% purity for use in molecular biology. bioWORLD offers 50 mg/mL and 100 mg/mL sterile solutions for simple dilution and use in cell culture. With thousands of cell culture products in our portfolio, bioWORLD also carries a number of agar plates containing Ampicillin.
bioWORLD's products are supplied for LABORATORY RESEARCH USE ONLY. The product may not be used as a drug, agricultural or pesticidal product, food additive or as a household chemical.
