Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide (CTAB)

Product Description

Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, more commonly known as CTAB, is a cationic detergent used in a number of biochemistry applications. It is a popular reagent in the precipitation of DNA because it dissolves the cell membrane while protecting the integrity of the DNA.

CTAB can contribute to a clear gel when performing electrophoresis on glycoproteins like our GlycoMatrix™ brand lectins, which due to their nature would otherwise come out unclear. This detergent has also proved to be an effective antiseptic.

Cetylrimethylammonium bromide is of >99% purity and is soluble in aqueous solutions, though more readily soluble in Methanol. For your convenience, bioWORLD offers this Molecular Biology Grade compound in a ready-to-use Carlson Lysis Buffer for CTAB DNA Extraction.

bioWORLD's products are supplied for LABORATORY RESEARCH USE ONLY. The product may not be used as a drug, agricultural or pesticidal product, food additive or as a household chemical.
