Product Description
X-Gal and IPTG Solution is an economic choice for blue/white screening. IPTG induces lacZ expression, the gene that codes for beta-Galactosidase production. Bacteria that produce beta-Galactosidase show up as blue colonies when grown on agar plates containing X-Gal. Bacteria negative for beta-Galactosidase remain white.
X-Gal and IPTG contains 40 mg/mL of each reagent in a convenient dropper bottle. The solution does not contain DMF or DMSO, which could be toxic to some cells. For best results, add 2-3 drops of X-Gal and IPTG to each agar plate and allow to dry before culturing. bioWORLD's Cell Spreader can be an effective choice to ensure even spreading of the solution across the plate. Please note: this solution is light sensitive.
