One of the original Good’s buffers, MOPS buffer is prepared by adding NaOH to the free acid solution. MOPS buffer is partly degraded on autoclaving in the presence of glucose and has negligible metal ion binding properties. It is a structural analog to MES buffer. MOPS is frequently used as a buffering agent in biology and biochemistry, widely for polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Usage above 20 mM in mammalian cell culture work is not recommended.
